Pernah naik bemo? Satu keunikannya yang tidak bisa dilupakan selain tongkrongan lucunya, adalah posisi tempat duduk penumpangnya. Karena di negeri asalnya, Jepang, bemo hanya dimanfaatkan sebagai angkutan barang, maka ketika di negara kita dipasangkan tempat duduk, ruangan yang tersedia menjadi sempit. Apalagi biasanya bemo digunakan untuk mengangkut paling kurang delapan penumpang: 6 di bagian belakang dan 2 di depan, termasuk sang sopir. Karena itu penumpang di bagian belakang seringkali harus beradu lutut, duduk berdesak-desakan. Akibatnya, menumpang bemo dapat menimbulkan kenangan manis tersendiri, khususnya bagi mereka yang mungkin mendapat pacar gara-gara beradu lutut di bemo. Hmm, apakah anda salah satunya?

Kendaraan berbentuk lucu dan unik ini dulunya sempat menjadi raja jalanan di sejumlah negara Asia termasuk Indonesia. Bentuk unik dan kapasitas muatan penumpang dan barang yang lebih besar daripada bajaj dan becak membuat Bemo menjadi sarana angkutan favorit di negeri kita era tahun 60-an, 70-an, sampai awal 80-an. Saking lekatnya ingatan orang pada bemo, sampai-sampai bentuknya sering diasosiasikan pada bentuk muka seseorang. Tentu anda masih ingat kan dengan salah satu komedian terkenal Alm. Wahyu Sardono alias Dono Warkop DKI yang sering dijuluki Dono Bemo.

Sayangnya, walaupun bemo dulunya sangat terkenal mungkin masih banyak orang yang belum tahu asal usul bemo ini termasuk saya sendiri. Karena penasaran ditambah rasa kangen pengen naik bemo lagi (walaupun sekarang sudah hampir punah), maka dibuatlah artikel ini. Nah, berikut ada sedikit kisah sejarah tentang asal-usul Bemo.

Sejarah Asal Usul Bemo

Bemo (singkatan dari ‘BEcak MOtor’) merupakan kendaraan bermotor roda tiga yang biasanya digunakan sebagai angkutan umum. Bemo mulai dipergunakan di Indonesia pada awal tahun 1962 di Jakarta untuk menyemarakkan event olahraga Ganefo. Setelah laku keras di Jakarta, bemo mulai merambah ke daerah-daerah lain di Indonesia. Bemo pada mulanya beroperasi seperti taksi. Kehadiran bemo dimaksudkan untuk menggantikan becak karena kendaraan ini sangat praktis dan mampu menjangkau jalan-jalan yang sempit, dan dapat melaju jauh lebih cepat daripada becak.

Bemo adalah salah satu produk dari pabrikan otomotif terkenal Daihatsu. Pabrikan ini dulunya populer sebagai produsen truk kecil beroda tiga. Setelah Toyota mengeluarkan truk beroda empat di tahun 1954 (populer sebagai Toyoace), permintaan atas truk roda tiga Daihatsu terus merosot. Daihatsu kemudian berinovasi mengembangkan kendaraan beroda tiga yang waktu itu boleh dikemudikan pemegang SIM mobil kompak di Jepang. Hasilnya adalah Daihatsu Midget yang mulai dipasarkan tahun 1957. Kendaraan ini berukuran kecil sehingga diberi nama "midget" (kerdil).

Daihatsu Midget lalu diekspor ke beberapa negara Asia termasuk Indonesia. Dan, meluncurlah kendaraan Daihatsu pertama di Indonesia: Daihatsu Midget alias Bemo.

Evolusi Prototipe Bemo

Model DK mulai dijual 1 Agustus 1957. Kemudi berbentuk stang seperti sepeda motor. Ruang pengemudi dan ruang muatan memiliki atap dari kanvas. Ruang pengemudi tidak berpintu. Panjang keseluruhan: 2.540 mm, lebar keseluruhan: 1.200 mm, tinggi keseluruhan: 1.500 mm. Penumpang maksimum 1 orang. Mesin tipe ZA, dua langkah, berpendingin sistem kipas, kapasitas silinder 250 cc, bahan bakar bensin. Kekuatan maksimum 10 tenaga kuda. Kecepatan maksimum 65 km/jam (spesifikasi dari katalog). Maksimum muatan 300 kg, berat kosong 350 kg. Variasi model berdasarkan model DK: DKA (model awal), DKII, DSV (bagian belakang dibuat kotak), DSAP (kapasitas 2 tempat duduk).

Model MP mulai dijual bulan Oktober 1959. Bagian hidung sebelah dalam menjadi bagian dari ruang pengemudi, dan bentuknya lebih manis dan halus dibandingkan model DK. Model MP mulai menggunakan stir bundar sehingga lebih mudah dikendarai. Ukuran lebih besar dibandingkan model sebelumnya, panjang keseluruhan: 2.970 mm, lebar keseluruhan: 1.295 mm, dan tinggi keseluruhan: 1.455 mm. Kapasitas tempat duduk: 2 orang. Mesin yang digunakan adalah tipe ZA, dan tipe ZD untuk Midget tipe III (kapasitas silinder: 305 cc, kekuatan maksimum 12 tenaga kuda). Model yang diproduksi: Tipe II (mesin tipe ZA), Tipe III (mesin tipe ZD).

• 1960 - Daihatsu memperkenalkan tipe MP4 dengan panjang keseluruhan ditambah 20 cm agar bisa mengangkut muatan lebih banyak.
• 1961 - Midget mulai diproduksi di Pakistan dengan sistem produksi bongkar pasang.
• 1963 - Daihatsu memperkenalkan tipe MP5 dengan ruang muatan yang diperpanjang 10 cm, dan maksimum muatan 350 kg. Tipe ini tidak lagi menggunakan bensin campur, melainkan bensin dan oli yang dipisah.
• 1972 - Produksi Midget dihentikan dengan total kumulatif produksi 336.534 unit, dan separuh dari jumlah tersebut terjual di Asia Tenggara.
• 1996–2001 - Daihatsu memproduksi mobil kompak beroda empat yang disebut Daihatsu Midget II

Sayang, bemo saat ini sudah banyak dihapuskan dari skema angkutan kota karena dianggap sudah terlalu tua, tidak aman lagi dan asapnya menyebabkan polusi. Namun di berbagai tempat bemo masih mampu bertahan dan sulit dihapuskan. Walaupun demikian, nama ‘Bemo’ tetap melekat dan terpatri di benak orang Indonesia. Terbukti apabila mau naik kendaraan angkutan umum orang sering menggampangkan sebutannya dengan naik bemo, meski bentuk kendaraan umum yang dinaiki itu jauh beda dengan bemo. Malangnya nasibmu Bemo, dulu menggemaskan sekarang mengenaskan.

Tukang Bakso pun Update Status Facebook

Kejadian ini bermula ketika secara tak sengaja aku berpapasan dengan tukang Mie Ayam keliling yang biasa beredar di depan rumah.
Siang itu, kulihat dia tengah berasyik masyuk di pinggir jalan, cekikikan sambil melihat sesuatu yang ada di tangannya.
Bahkan saking asiknya, gerobak mie ayam itu ditinggalkannya begitu saja, seakan mengundang pemulung jail untuk mengangkutnya

Karena penasaran, diriku pun bertanya

"Mas Jason (panggil saja demikian, karena dia sering dipanggil Son ama pelanggannya) "Son.. mie ayamnya siji maning sooon..", sedang apa kok asik bener di pojokan?" tanyaku

"Eh mas ganteng...( satu hal yang aku suka dari Jason adalah : Orangnya suka bicara Jujur!), ini mas, lagi update status!!..."

WADEZIG!!

"weehhh... njenengan fesbukan juga to??" tanyaku heran

"Ya iyalah mas... hareee geneee ga fesbukan?!...
Lagian kan lumayan juga buat menjaring pelanggan lewat fesbuk, kata pak Hermawan Keretajaya kan dalam berdagang kita harus selalu melakukan diferensiasi termasuk dalam hal pemasaran mass.. "

"nih mas aku bacain :

Tapi ada yg aneh pas kulirik ke henpon yang dia pake, aku kira henponnya blekberi atau minimal nokia seri baru yang uda bisa pake internetan.
Selidik punya selidik, ternyataa... henponnya lawas bin jadul...
HP yang masih monokrom, suara belum poliponik, dan masih pake antena luar kayak radio AM

"mas, tapi kok bisa update fesbuk pake henpon sederhana gitu? (bahasa halusnya henpon lawas) Gimana caranya??

"Owwh.. gampang mas, saya tinggal nulis statusnya lewat SMS lalu kirim ke Tri? jawab dia datar.
"Ohh.. mas nya pake Kartu Three ya? Yang gratis internetan itu?"

" Bukaaaan mas, Tri itu lengkapnya Tri Ambarwati...
Dia itu pacar saya, sama-sama dari Tegal, yang kerjaannya jagain Warnet 24 Jam!
Jadi kalo butuh update, tinggal sms dia aja nanti dia yang gantiin status saya,
Lha wong dia tiap hari di depan komputer jagain warnet. Paling sebagai balesannya saya gratisin mie ayam seminggu sekali... murah to..."

Mendadak kepalaku pusing
Bagaikan menderita dehidrasi akut sekaligus hipotermia tingkat tiga, aku limbung mendengar jawaban spektakuler dari mas jason...
BRUK!!

"lho mas.. mas... jadi beli mie ayam ndak...kepriben iki?"
